Abstract

If everybody wins, then does nobody win? The study by Nguyen and Li, “Analysis of “spin” in vascular surgery randomized controlled trials with nonsignificant outcomes,”1 is an interesting and provocative evaluation of phase 3 randomized trials in vascular surgery with “nonsignificant” outcomes that impacted clinical practice, clinical guidelines, health policy, coverage determinations, and industry funding of additional research, and calls for grant proposals. Words matter. Words can be influential and possibly alter approaches to a disease process, a patient, or a procedure.
