Abstract
Resilience is one of the most relevant topics of our time. This essay discusses some of the fundamental ideas about resilience found in the work of French neuropsychiatrist and psychoanalyst Boris Cyrulnik. It reflects on five of Cyrulnik's well-known books to establish a kind of “dialogue” with his work. Themes from Cyrulnik's writing are explored from a Catholic perspective, including the importance of the stories that people make of their lives to integrate and overcome trauma, the process of love, and a consideration of what the classics, from Greek philosophers to Descartes, called the soul.
