Abstract

Research Article| July 01 2018 “Every Evening at 8”: The Rise of the Promenade Concerts in Late Nineteenth-Century Boston Kenneth H. Marcus Kenneth H. Marcus Kenneth Marcus is a professor of history at the University of La Verne. He holds a BA in history from UC Berkeley; an MBA from École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris; and a PhD in history from Cambridge University. He has published three books and over fifty articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews on subjects ranging from California cultural history to music patronage in early modern Germany. Among his media projects is a CD entitled Some American Music, featuring his own works as well as compositions by Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, and Woody Guthrie, for which he performed on piano and guitar.
