Abstract

The gasoline, an extremely volatile liquid, evaporates creating unwanted "evaporative emissions", mainly influenced by the variations of the temperature and pressure inside the tanks. Here the evaporative emissions in the fuel tank of vehicles have been investigated using both numerical and experimental analysis. Experimentation has been performed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on a Mini – SHED (Sealed Housing Evaporative Determination) testing apparatus. Each test has a duration of 48h in accordance with the EURO 6dnormative. Moreover, numerical results have been obtained by means of a 0D CFD modeling approach, using the MATLAB® software. The numerical model has been validated with experimental data, with a good agreement.
