Abstract

AbstractEvaporation from an old stand of papyrus was estimated by the Bowen ratio method. It was found that about 30 per cent of the net radiation reaching the top of the canopy was converted into sensible heat. The layer formed by the heads of the papyrus also seemed to act as a major resistance to turbulent exchange of water vapour from the undergrowth. Evaporation from an old stand of papyrus was estimated to be 60 ± 15 per cent of Penman estimates of evaporation from open water.
