Abstract

Foreword—The writer is under special obligations to Robert E. Horton. for causing the resurrection of the data upon which the following paper is based and to Francois E. Matthes for pointing out their application to glacier‐evolution at mountain tops. Walter J. Herz deserves special commendation for serving as pinch computer in preparing the tables. This study of evaporation begun in 1910 represents not so much a finished piece of work entered upon with the refinement of laboratory method as a pioneer effort based upon scant material and observers. Its value lies in the unusual situations in which the measurements were made and their application to the study of the evolution of snow and ice.
