Abstract
AbstractThe article exposes the situation of the two great European Christian churches in Germany. First the religious situation in Germany will be described, this being the situation of the two Folkchurches (Volkskirchen), Evangelical and Catholic. The second step is concerned with the problem of the denominational juxtaposition of the two major Churches. This juxtaposition will be set in an international comparison against the background of the current extent of belief in God. Finally the problem of denominationalism will be elucidated under the aspects of competition, privatisation and individualization.
