Abstract
Two kinds of desire are distinguished in Mencius. One is a kind of blind force issued from sensory organs; another comes from our heart-mind and is related to our value structure as it intrinsically embodies a normative judgment about the object of desire. It is explained here how the latter type of desire plays a significant role in moral guidance and constitutes our moral agency.
