Abstract

Promoting healthful diets by supporting access to nutritious food is central to the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) mission. School meal programs—the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP)—are a central strategy to help children avoid hunger, nourish their growth and development, and enable them to focus on learning. These programs reach more than 31 million children each school day.
