Abstract

Numerous studies for smart antennas with spatial processing to estimate the directions of arrival (DOA) have already been conducted. However, these studies mostly include uniform linear arrays (ULA) and uniform circular arrays (UCA) but not as much effort has been devoted to other configurations, such as uniform rectangular arrays (URA). One of the most popular subspace DOA algorithms is MUSIC algorithm. This paper presents DOA estimation using MUSIC algorithm with uniform rectangular arrays (URA). It also evaluates simulation results of MUSIC algorithm varying the number of antenna elements, the signal-to-noise ratio and the number of samples of the incident signals. Performance improvement in DOA estimation is demonstrated for certain range of input parameters and the results can be used to set the criteria for optimal performance of rectangular smart antennas. In this paper, the performance of DOA estimation with uniform rectangular arrays (URA) and uniform circular arrays (UCA) is also examined and compared.
