Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Chinese Decoction of Yubaisang on acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) with syndrome of stagnation of phlegm-heat in lung and its influence on the therapeutic time of antibiotic. Methods One hundred patients with AECOPD of syndrome of stagnation of phlegm-heat in lung were randomly divided into experimental group (50 cases) and control group (50 cases). The control group received basic treatment, and the experimental group took decoction of Yubaisang two times per day in addition to basic treatment.Overall curative effects of TCM syndromes, scores of TCM syndromes, COPD assessment test, and modified British medical research council (mMRC) in both groups were evaluated after one week.Changes of blood routine examination, C-reaction protein (CRP)and blood gas analysis were compared between the two groups as well.Meanwhile, the duration of fever, the therapeutic time of antibiotic and length of stay were counted after the treatment. Results ①After treatment, the curative ratio of TCM syndromes in the experimental group was better than that in the control group (92% vs 76%, P<0.05), and scores of TCM syndromes was lower than the control group (4.18±1.91 vs 5.02±1.92, P<0.05). ②Compared with the control group, the experimental group′s percentage of neutrophils [(64.58±9.20)% vs (69.39±10.63)%, P<0.05)], CRP [(24.79±25.62) mg/L vs (32.30±21.35) mg/L, P<0.05], and partial pressure of carbon dioxide [(40.59±7.00) mmHg vs (46.39±13.36) mmHg, P<0.05](1 mmHg=0.133 kPa)and mMRC (1.98±0.68 vs 2.74±0.63, P<0.01) decreased after one week′s treatment.③The duration of fever [(2.16±1.26) d vs (3.40±2.76) d, P<0.05] and the therapeutic time of antibiotic [(8.02±2.35) d vs (9.26±3.31) d, P<0.05] in the experimental group were shorter than that in the control group. Conclusions This study suggests that the treatment of AECOPD of syndrome of stagnation of phlegm-heat in lung with Yubaisang decoction can improve the patient′s symptoms and reduce the inflammatory response of the body.Yubaisang decoction combined with basic treatment was a safe and effective therapy for AECOPD.And it could shorten the duration of fever and the therapeutic time of antibiotic as well.
