Abstract
Greater use of recreational facilities plus continued encroachment of residential and resort developments into natural habitats have greatly increased man's contact with yellowjacket wasps. Thus far, the problem of stinging Hymenoptera has been addressed by Fluno (1%1) while Grant (1963) first discussed needs and potential for yellowjacket control. Please refer to Fluno's paper for a detailed account of the effects of yellowjackets on man. Here we offer an evaluation of existing yellowjacket abatement strategies discussed in view of recent advances in our understanding of the biology of Nearctic species.
