Abstract

This article presents a performance evaluation of XTP (Xpress transport protocol) and TCP (transmission control protocol) transport protocols for reliable multicast communications. Considering high performance distributed parallel environments, such as workstation clusters, multi-cast is an interesting function to be observed. Parallel application processes require frequently data exchange with a number of other processes located in other processors. These processors are commonly interconnected by a local area network technology in a cluster configuration. On this basis, our research work presents empirical results of reliable multicast communications, which indicates an enhanced performance of the XTP lightweight transport protocol for high performance computing in comparison to the TCP protocol.
