Abstract

Identification and delineation of Land use/ Land cover, location, extent and their spatial distribution patterns ar e possible through Remote Sensing (RS) because of its synoptic view and its ability to resolve both macro and micro details on a single imagery. The preliminary objective of this paper is to evaluate watershed parameters using remote sensing and geographic information systems for Palleru sub basin (K 11) of River Krishna, Andhra Pradesh, India for a period of 1989 to 2002. NDVI concept has been used to evaluate land use/ land cover in th is study area. Spatial and temporal variations were analyzed . Four clas ses were identified in the study area. Further, t he secondary objectives of the present study is to develop different maps like s lope map, soil map, contour map, flow direction map, flow accumulation map, mandal wise administrative boundary map, Digital El evation Model (DEM) map, Thiessen polygon coverage, Aspect map, Viewshed map and drainage map in GIS environment . To prepare Land use /Land Cover map using ERDAS through Satellite imageries. The extracted watershed parameters will be useful in watershed hy drology and irrigation water management effectively.
