Abstract
The use of bedside ultrasound to evaluate fluid status in patients suspected of hypovolemia or sepsis is becoming common in emergency practice. There are few data, however, describing the training process whereby ED attendings are instructed and then certified in this skill. The purpose of this prospective trial was to determine the effectiveness of a brief educational intervention in improving ED attending knowledge and performance of the sonographic evaluation of the Inferior vena cava (IVC) which is one of 3 methods utilized for assessment of intravascular volume in our severe sepsis protocol.
