Abstract
ight through severe storms is described. The system combines a full six degree-of-freedom aircraft dynamic model with wind and precipitation data from simulated and actual severe convective storms. Interfaces have been written to enable the use of system hardware where possible to achieve the highest delity in the simulations. Several runs using simulated storm data sets and dierent aircraft sampling strategies were conducted. Results are analyzed to determine survivability of the aircraft, with an attempt to characterize the accuracy of the wind estimation algorithms. Based on the analysis, recommended changes to the initial concept of operations for the storm penetration and sampling mission are presented.
