Introduction. Hepatitis B virus infection is endemic in Madagascar. A reliable method of diagnosis is important to avoid severe complications. The aim of this study was assess two rapid diagnostic tests of diagnosis of hepatitis B infection in order to detect the small surface anti-gen (HBSAg): kit Determine HBsAg (Abbott Diagnostics Japan) and kit SD Bioline (Standard Diagnostic Corea), by comparing to the ELISA testing, using Genscreen HBsAg kit (BioRad France). Methods. We tested sera of our serotheque for each test including 76 serum positives results and 74 serum negatives results. Results. Sensitivity was 96.1 %, specificity was 93.2%, PPV was 93.6%, and NPV 95.8% for the kit Determine HBsAg. For the kit SD Bioline ® HBsAg , sensitivity was 92.5%, specificity 87.8%, PPV 86.0%, and NPV 93.5% Conclusion. Determine HBsAg® was most performant than SD Bioline®. However, no test has fulfilled optimal criteria for diagnosis which are sensitivity and sensitivity more than 98%.
