Abstract

Five types of traps for Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh) were tested in both unsprayed orchards where large numbers of flies were trapped and in commercial orchards catch of all 5 types of traps was significantly different in where only a few flies were captured. The following identical ranking of the traps in order of decreasing effectiveness was obtained in both types of orchards: baited sticky artificial apples, sticky red spheres, yellow cards, sectar traps, and gypsy moth traps. The season’s the unsprayed orchards, but the performance of the 3 most effective traps did not differ significantly in the commercial orchards.
