Abstract

Correct estimation of track stiffness and track damping is essential for predicting the dynamic wheel loads of railway vehicles running on rough tracks. While several analytical procedures have been developed in the past to estimate track stiffness, there is no procedure readily available for estimating track damping. Experimental techniques involving the use of impulse tests have been used in this study to estimate track stiffness and track damping, on several different track structures on the Indian Railways. The results of these tests are presented.
