Abstract

This work reports the development of an electric power generation system based on a hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV) and, biomass gasifier coupled to syngas generator designed for isolated, non-interconnected rural regions of Central and South America. The system consists of the combination of a biomass gasification module coupled to a 30 kWe motor-generator and a 5 kWe solar photovoltaic system with a battery storage systems. A series of pilot studies were carried out on the gasification of rice husks and coffee husks, varying some parameters of the process to evaluate the production of synthesis gas for supply to an internal combustion engine and the integration of energy in the microgrid. The operation of the net system was controlled manually by a selector, with which the operator optimizes the subsystems to satisfy the demand when the supply is variable.
