Introduction

Clearly reported clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are essential for evidence-based clinical practice. The Institute of Medicine recognizes CPGs as necessary reference material for physicians seeking to optimize patient care.[1] CPGs are capable of increasing the quality of patient care and improving patient outcomes[2], but the adoption of low-quality guidelines may result in widespread use of ineffective treatments, inefficient practices, and harm to patients[3,4].
