Abstract

The problem of the calculation and prediction of limiting-stress and fatigue-strength diagrams for materials subjected to an asymmetric multicycle loading is addressed. A critical analysis of the applicability of familiar approaches and relationships is given. It is demonstrated that in constructing relationships between the limiting stresses in a cycle, it is expedient to use generalized limiting diagrams, which are invariant with respect to the time to failure. Models of the limiting state are constructed on the basis of the description of the generalized diagram by a cosine power function. A single experiment with a cycle that originates at zero is proposed for identification of the shapes of the limiting surface. Some problems of the limiting-state calculation are solved for a uniaxial and complex stress state.
