El tiburón viuda virma Mustelus canis es una especie demersal que habita en las plataformas continentales e insulares de las zonas templadas y tropicales. The smooth dogfish shark, Mustelus canis, is a demersal species inhabiting the continental and insular shelves of temperate and tropical areas. It is found from the northeastern United States to Venezuela, including the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, southern Brazil and northern Argentina (Compagno 1984, Heemstra 1997). This species is of great commercial value in Cuba, Venezuela and Brazil (Compagno 1984, Cervigón and Alcalá 1999)
