Abstract

The field complement fixation test and microtitre complement fixation test for contagious bovine pleuropneumonia were evaluated under field conditions in a group of 700 infected cattle. The sensitivity of the field complement fixation test was found over a 4 day period to be 40 per cent, whilst the specificity was 97•8 per cent. On the cattle at slaughter the microtitre complement fixation test had a sensitivity of 88•8 per cent and a specificity of 97•8 per cent. These results are discussed in relation to the field control of acute contagious bovine pleuropneumonia.
