Abstract

Calcium carbonate scale damage in the allotropic forms of calcite and aragonite was selectively induced on freshly polished carbon steel surfaces in cooling system media. The damaged surfaces were submitted to cyclic voltammetry using a potassium ferrocyanide/sodium nitrate aqueous solution as the oxidizing medium to establish a method for evaluating the extent of scale coverage. © 2001 The Electrochemical Society.
