Abstract

The rapid increase in journeys, freight transport, and the use of private vehicles in cities causes environmental problems such as the decrease in urban environmental quality as well as economic and social problems in transportation. In this context, the concept of the city logistics shows up to improve and maintain logistics activities in settlements. It is necessary to define the barriers to the use of sustainable transportation systems in city logistics and to plan strategic steps by prioritizing these barriers according to their importance. In this study, an integrated approach of Grey DEMATEL-ANP is proposed to model these barriers in the city logistics for Istanbul. The proposed method determines the cause-effect relationships and relative weights of the key barriers. The results of this study may help decision makers and practitioners to address the key barriers highlighted and provide the theoretical guideline to use the sustainable transport systems across city logistics successfully.
