Abstract

The authors describe a simple green method for the preparation of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) using the aqueous root extract of Scutellaria baicalensis. The synthesized ZnONPs were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, TEM, SEM and EDX. They were spherical in shape and with sizes ranging from 33.14–99.03 nm. The ZnONPs produced exhibited significant free radical scavenging effects. An in-vitro study showed a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect on HeLa cells.
