Abstract

Blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum L. (Ericaceae), cultivation was introduced to South Africa in the early 1990s (T.D. McKenzie pers. comm.). As a newly introduced and understudied fruit crop in South Africa, little is known about the potential of native insects to reach pest status on blueberry cultivars. Banded fruit weevil, Phlyctinus callosus (Schoenherr) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is one such pest.
