Abstract
A three-dimensional profilometry has been developed for the purpose of evaluating grinding wheel surface topography. By applying this method to the measurement of topography of a metal-bonded diamond wheel dressed by an abrasive stick method, the effect of dressing conditions on the generation mechanism of diamond cutting points has been investigated. The results obtained are as follows. (1) The tips of the diamond grains located in the wheel outermost surface layer are flattened. (2) The distribution pattern of cutting points in the radial direction changes from exponential to uniform as the dressing condition becomes rough. (3) The rough dressing condition causes a higher grain protrusion, but the degree is restricted in the case where dislodgment of diamond grain is dominant.
