Abstract

This paper provides a solution for stress intensity factors for a crack embedded in an elliptic inclusion. The inclusion is bonded to an infinite matrix. The inclusion and the infinite matrix have different elastic properties. The crack is replaced by a very slender elliptic configuration. After this replacement, the stress concentration factor can be evaluated. The stress intensity factor at the crack tip can be evaluated from the stress concentration factor by using an available equation. In the solution, the complex variable function method, conformal mapping and the matrix transfer method are used.
