Abstract

This paper studies dichotomous voting with correlated votes and the effect of the dependency on a special class of weighted majority rules, containing, for example, two expert rules and a simple majority rule. To do this, I introduce a model for conditional skill probabilities dependent upon the opinion and skill of an influential group member. A certain level of correlation between votes is shown to lead to minimum collective competence under the decision rules studied, while negative dependency may lead to increased collective decisional efficiency.
