Abstract

Ultrasonic seaming method is one of the alternatives to conventional seaming methods used to convert different textile surfaces into final products. In our study; waterproof polyester woven fabrics with polyurethane membrane were used, and seam strength, bursting strength and water permeability properties of ultrasonic seaming were examined by changing various parameters. Also, this method was compared to conventional seaming and sealing adhesive tape. It is observed that high water permeability values take place generally in ultrasonic seaming but at some seaming parameters in ultrasonic seaming, values are lower than adhesive tape sealed ones. Conversely, seam strength values of the ultrasonically sewn fabrics are lower than both of the other methods. Generally, when the optimum seaming parameters are determined for each fabric type, ultrasonic seaming can be said to be more advantageous in terms of waterproofing property in cases where high strength is not required.
