Abstract

The absorption coefficient αo for ordinary ray, that αe for extraordinary ray, the loss coefficients γo, γe, and the population inversion η of a popular slim ruby rod were determined independently by a new method. The condition to evaluate those parameters using single wavelength of ruby laser was finely discussed, and the two wavelength method was proposed, and advantage of this method was verified by experiment with a ruby laser and a He-Ne laser.
