Abstract

This study was conducted in the laboratories of the Department of Environmental Sciences - College of Science - University of Kufa, with the aim of measuring the chemical and physical properties of soil and water in the Bahr Al-Najaf depression. Samples were collected in October 2021 from three different sites with three replicates for each site. The results showed that the water in all sites were alkaline, with the highest value for site 2 of third replicate which pH reach 10.5, while the lowest value was for site 1 ,pH was 9.6.The electrical conductivity was the highest in the first and third site that reach 9.76 ms/cm,while the lower in site 2 which was 8.68 ms/cm. .The temperature was within the average (28_25) Celsius. The results also showed an increasing in salinity in sites 1 and 3 by 7.3 mg / l, and decreasing in the concentration of salts that was observed at site 2 of 5.5 mg / l. This study found a decrease in the nutrient concentrations in the water samples of Bahr Al-Najaf, where the highest concentration of NO3 was 0.86 US/l, and the highest concentration of PO4 was 0.248 mg/l.
