Abstract

This paper describes the measurement of radon concentrations using CR-39 detectors and Karlsruhe plastic diffusion cups, its method, etching conditions, calibration, and results of field application. The optimum etching conditions found by orthogonal experimental design were 6.25 N KOH solution at 75°C for six hours. The calibration factors were 3.50±0.42 tracks cm-2/k·Bq·m-3h. The relative error for the measurement results of samples under intercomparison with reference value was less than 10%. The detectable lower limit was 9.9 Bq ·m-3 (exposure period one month) when the measurement error less than 50%.
