Abstract

Abstract Granular soil insecticides were evaluated for stand protection efficacy on no-tillage first year corn planted 11 May into fallow ground having a significant infestation of chickweed at the OARDC Western Branch Station near South Charleston. Six treatments of granular soil insecticides were compared to an untreated check treatment. A RCBD was used with 4 replicates of plots that were 140 ft in length and 4 rows wide at 30 inch row spacing. Planting time granular treatments were applied as a band prior to closure by the press wheel using a custom built 2 row John Deere 7000 planter equipped with Noble granular insecticide application equipment. Stand and plant injury counts of 100 ft of row were conducted on 31 May, 9 and 16 Jun. Plots were machine harvested on 18 Oct and yields were based on the center 2 rows of the 4 row plots.
