Abstract

Thermometry using silicon diode junctions as sensors is usually undertaken using a constant current source and digital voltmeter in a four-terminal measurement. Typical parameters are 10 mu A and voltages from 0.3 to 1.8 V, for temperatures over the range 400-1.8 K. This paper presents a relative evaluation of four simple battery-powered low-drain constant-current source designs, suitable for this application, and reports measurements of their output stability against variations in ambient temperature, supply voltage and the variable impedance presented by the diode over the thermometry range.
