Abstract

Abstract A small plot study was conducted at the Texas A&M Research and Extension Center in Weslaco, Texas, to evaluate selected insecticides for control of onion thrips on onions. Experimental plots measured 2 beds (80 in.) by 15 feet, with two rows of onions per bed. Treatments were arranged in a RCB design with four replications. Insecticides were applied with a CO2 pressurized (40 psi) backpack sprayer with two 10X hollow cone nozzles per bed (broadcast) in a total volume of 30 gpa. Applications were made on 30 Mar. and 4, 6 and 12 Apr. Silwet at 8 oz. per 100 gal was added to all treatments on 6 and 12 Apr. Thrips populations were monitored by counting all thrips on 5 randomly selected plants per plot.
