Abstract

In order to respond to social changes in road utilization, the reallocation of existing road space has been attracting attention. However, the specific criteria for reallocating road space that considers a variety of stakeholders have not been determined, and many problems need to be considered. In this study, the authors evaluated road space usage and problems, and incorporated the needs and opinions of those using the roads to provide a safe and comfortable road environment for all road users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles. The authors found that the need for improving the quality of local roads and for road space is large. In the future, in order to improve the quality of road space based on the road users' needs, it is necessary to avoid policies that favor the major roads and vehicle use, and implement road space reallocation considering the needs of the residents and the various stakeholders.
