Abstract

The role of progestational agents in the treatment of postmenopausal hot flushes has been evaluated in castrated women. Medroxyprogesterone acetate was found to be more potent and more effective than 17 hydroxyprogesterone caproate and is recommended as an acceptable substitute to estrogen therapy. The absence of serious side effects justifies its use for treating vasomotor symptoms, but a critical evaluation of its long-term effects is required.
