Abstract
The clinical examinations performed for preoperative diagnosis of the conductive deafness without perforation of the tympanic membrane were evaluated by the retrospective studies in 30 ears operated on at the University of Tsukuba Hospital. The pure tone audiometry, tympanometry or CT was not contributory to the differential diagnosis of ossicular chain abnormality. In contrast to these negative results, liquid test and acoustic reflex test are the most reliable examinations for the differential diagnosis between fixation and discontinuity of the ossicles.
