Abstract

Our systematic volumetric studies on the aqueous solutions containing ionic liquids and carbohydrates is followed in this research by consideration of the ternary (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate or 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate + sorbitol + water) mixtures. For this purpose, via the measured density data, apparent molar volumes, their values at infinite dilution and apparent molar expansibility for these ionic liquids (ILs) in aqueous sorbitol solutions have been calculated. By means of these information, as where as possible, solute =solvent and solute-solute interactions in these systems are discussed. Hydrophilic–hydrophobic hydrophobic–ionic and hydrophobic–hydrophobic interactions are governing in the considered ternary solutions. Both ionic liquids act as structure maker in these solutions.
