Abstract

The research, using interviews and a questionnaire, involved an effort to determine what benefits students received from a political science fieldwork course and which student characteristics are associated with various levels of course benefits. The major benefits resulting from this fieldwork consisted of developing good co-worker relationships, interpersonal skills, confidence in one's abilities, theoretical knowledge, and career preferences. Those who received higher levels of various benefits were generally found to be students who spent more time on their studies, had specific goals for the fieldwork experience, and had high levels of political interest and experience.
