Abstract

The objective of the present study was to find the phytochemical analysis of Gum Arabic (Acacia Senegal) in vitro and in vivo study. The rats were divided randomly into four groups (n=10), and placed in metabolic cages. The groups include normal control (fed with the standard diet and water ad libitum), Gentamicin group (Gentamicin 80 mg/kg/day i.p.) and Gum Arabic treated groups (250 and 500mg/kg/day). The radical scavenging activity (RSA) of Gum arabic aqueous extract was found to be 20%. The phytochemical screening of the extracts exhibits the presence of Flavonoids, Saponins and Cumarins. The results indicated that Gum Arabic aqueous extract improved the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase in Albino rats.
