Abstract
Manufacturing of defect-free products has long been recognised, and important for any company aspiring to build its market share (Lim et al., 1999). It is appreciable to develop management policies for the effective use of available resources. The employee community is the influencing source available in any organisation, and has to be utilised properly to meet the organization's objectives. Employee training will improve the production performance by way of minimising the losses in production. In this paper, a case study, conducted on a particular production process of a radiator manufacturing company is presented, in which the findings of a survey conducted for assessing the proficiency of shop floor employees, levels of training provided and the encouraging effects of training on production are discussed.
