Abstract

This paper presents an extension of topics related to full-scale structural testing that were discussed during the Engineering Foundation Conference held in Rindge, N. H., in 1976. It amplifies the role that full-scale testing has had in the evaluation of performance of structures. Five examples of actual applications of full-scale testing are presented to illustrate various testing methods, aspects of planning, criteria for the evaluation of the test results, and data recording methods. The fundamental aim of the paper is to present useful information on practical applications of full-scale structural testing for the evaluation of performance and significant planning considerations.
