Abstract

Performance of ethanol gelation test (EG test) and of a diluted protamine sulfate test (DPS test), was assessed by quantitative plasma fibrinogen chromatography by testing a large series of unrelated plasma samples. The relationship between paracoagulation tests and chromatographic findings was highly significant (p < 0.001). However both sensitivity and specificity of EG and DPS tests were shown to depend on fibrinogen concentration; EG test appeared less sensitive at low fibrinogen levels whereas DPS test appeared less sensitive at high fibrinogen levels.
