Abstract

SUMMARY A study was conducted on 34 turkey breeding flocks involving 74,547 birds. In this study a comparison was made between 100% serological test for Salmonella pullorum and S. typhimurium and a combination of 500 blood samples test and 500 cloacal swabs. It was observed that the combination of 500 blood samples test and 500 cloacal swabs was equal in accuracy to 100% serological test. Five hundred blood samples test was inferior to 100% serological test in accuracy. On the basis of this study it was proposed that 100% serological testing be replaced by 500 blood samples test and 500 cloacal swabs.
