Abstract

This test was conducted at the Macon Ridge Research Station (MRRS) near Winnsboro, Louisiana in 2013. The field was planted on 20 May on 40 inch rows and was a RCB design with four replications. Plots were 4 rows wide x 50 ft in length. Insecticides were applied using a John Deere 6000 series high clearance sprayer calibrated to deliver 10 gpa at 3.5 mph with Tee Jet TX-8 hollow cone nozzles (2/row) to all four rows of each plot on 7 Aug. Treatments were evaluated by randomly sampling ten leaves from the upper 33% of the plant canopy within the middle two rows of each plot. Samples were processed using a mite brushing machine and TSSM were counted using a dissecting microscope. A pretreatment evaluation was made on 7 Aug and post-treatment evaluations on 12 and 16 Aug. Because differences were detected among treatments in the pre-counts, a Henderson-Tilton transformation was utilized to calculate percentage control. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and means were separated using an F-protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).
