Abstract

The mathematical evaluation of different types of single-phase H-type transformerless inverters for PV grid system is introduced in this chapter. When a PV system is interfaced with utility grid with the help of transformerless inverter, a parasitic capacitance is formed between the PV and the ground resulting in the flow of leakage currents; as a result, the leakage currents must be in permissible limits to reduce injection of DC current into AC grid. In this paper, the mathematical analysis of H-bridge transformerless inverter is performed to understand on which factors the leakage current depends. Further, MATLAB simulation is performed for H4, H5, H6 and H6-I topologies of inverter to analyze the value of leakage current. In view of local residential loads, the PV system is designed for 2.5 KW which is usually in the capacity range of 1–5 KW where leakage currents are found to be severe.
